Use wall dimensions, subtract doors and windows, and include every coat. Paint coverage comes from the product label.
Buying individual tiles or boxes
Use tile dimensions when you know the piece size and pieces per box. The result includes whole-box rounding.
Buying flooring by carton
Use the coverage printed on the carton. This is useful for laminate, vinyl, and hardwood sold by area.
Matching a wallpaper pattern
Use roll width, roll length, and the straight-match repeat. A surface-area estimate alone can miss unusable offcuts.
Put the numbers to work
Use actual measurements and supplier specifications. Extra allowance is separate from the base quantity; these tools estimate materials, not structural requirements.
